How do I get better as a player?
The question we have heard most often is, how can I or how can my player get better? We believe most already know the answer to this question to some degree… however it is a fair question.
How can one as a player get better? The first answer would be to work hard, to practice. In general, not as a whole, but in general young players in America don’t play as much as they use to away from game time. Why? Has the game fallen? Has the game changed? Do young players not enjoy the game as much now as they use to? Do players not have fun now when they play?
The answer to all is no we believe. Could you argue that the game has changed? Possibly. But from what we’ve seen the biggest thing is there is just so much more for players to do now to take up there “free time”.
For all of us 35 years of age and older, we didn’t grow up with video games, computers, 24 hour cartoon channels and On-Demand. The world has changed, the country has changed, but the game has not.
Baseball in our opinion is the greatest game to ever have been played. It has been in the past and continues to be today.
So how as a player could I get better? The first thing do is just play. You need to get out there, throw the ball around, play at recess and lunch in elementary school. Play on a team in a local league, go down to the park and take some batting practice after school or on a Sunday afternoon, field some ground balls, shag some fly balls… or just go out front and play some catch.
The best way to get better is to play. That of course is just a starting point. But long before you ever sign up for a hitting lesson or a pitching lesson or whatever it might be… just get out there and play the game at its most pure level… outside with your buddies or dad while simply having a game of catch.
Obviously, to begin to reach your full potential and take your level of play to an even higher level more goes into it that that, you could take a lesson, participate in a camp, be part of a class. But it all starts with just playing….
We wish each player out there all the success in the world and if you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.
